SQI
3rd Interest Group Session: The Balanced Scorecard
(6 November 2002)
Objectives
SQI organizes regular Interest Group Discussions on various topics to provide members with the opportunity:
Allow members to learn/seek views on each other on the topics discussed.
Personal Development.
Team Sharing.
Networking.
Topic Discussed: The Balanced Scorecard
The Balanced Scorecard has become
a very popular management topic over the past few years. This is largely
because most organizations find it difficult to really ´implement´
their strategy and hence are in urgent need of a ´strategy implementation´
tool or strategic management system.
Also, increasingly, the new knowledge based
environment has highlighted the value of intellectual assets which are not well measured
or included in the traditional financial scorecards.
On 6 November 2002, SQI held an Interest
Group Discussion at Nee Soon South Community Club. The response was overwhelming.
We were very privileged to have with us Associate Professor Hum Sin Hoon, who has recently
completed his term as the Dean of The NUS Business School at the National University of
Singapore, to share with us his insights on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) system.

Interest Group Discussion on The Balanced Scorecard
A/Prof Hum Sin Hoon (Facilitator), Centre/Standing
Assoc. Prof Hum began by introducing to member
the concept of Balanced Scorecard framework. He also elaborated on other related
elements of the Balanced Scorecard system such as linkage diagram, strategy map,
creating a strategy-focused organization, automated BSCs, cascading BSCs within an
organization, and critical success factors for BSC implementation
This was followed by a Q & A session, in which
our members participated actively. In conclusion, we would like to thank our members
for their overwhelming support.
